we're going to be seeing a big change

in the way we shop, and it's not something

that you might think for over five decades

when you go to the grocery store

or really any store,

there's a barcode on your item

and you can either self check it

or the checker can take it for you,

but they scan it.

Basically, that process is the same.

It ends up bringing up what you're buying.

Well, that barcode is being retired.

Your groceries

are not going to stop scanning.

But what's happening

is, is we are changing into a new format.

So the UPC barcode was introduced

in the early:

it was scanned

was in:

And ever since then, that beeping

has just been a part of shopping

the 2D barcode,

which is what we think of as the UPC

code,

as being retired in favor of a new format

that's going to use something

that looks like a QR code.
