:we're going to be seeing a big change
in the way we shop, and it's not something

:that you might think for over five decades
when you go to the grocery store

:or really any store,
there's a barcode on your item

:and you can either self check it

:or the checker can take it for you,
but they scan it.

:Basically, that process is the same.

:It ends up bringing up what you're buying.

:Well, that barcode is being retired.

:Your groceries
are not going to stop scanning.

:But what's happening
is, is we are changing into a new format.

:So the UPC barcode was introduced
in the early:

:it was scanned
was in:

:And ever since then, that beeping
has just been a part of shopping

:the 2D barcode,
which is what we think of as the UPC

:code,
as being retired in favor of a new format

:that's going to use something
that looks like a QR code.
